This man will drive his ex-girlfriend to get suitcases weighed at the UPS location in the Swan Island industrial area, get lost on the way because she forgot how to get there, find himself on N Skidmore and say “Are we just gonna go to the Bluffs and throw your suitcases over the edge?”, and that is why I will always be friends with him.
Also, he doesn’t make this face all the time, just when I’m taking his picture.Portland, Oregon

- DAY FOR NIGHT is going up tomorrow night
It’s true! I have a solo show going up at Valentine’s tomorrow night! I’m moving to Berlin on February 3 and to show these L.A., Berlin shots from last summer, being in between two worlds, is a fitting theme for a goodbye show…
Showing at Valentine’s, my very favorite place in this city, is even better.
Come say hi!
The opening is from 6 to 9, then we dance.Day For Night: A New Photography show by Chloé Richard

VALENTINE’S
Opening Reception: First Thursday, Dec. 4th, 6-9pm
Followed by a party in celebration of Chloé’s work and birthdayThe photos of the show are in my Projects gallery.
French photographer and 2006 PNCA graduate Chloé Richard has been living in the U.S. for ten years, and in February will be moving to Berlin. Recently, Richard took two separate trips and shot photographs in black and white. The first trip was to Los Angeles to spend time with a friend, Yasmine. The other trip, to Berlin where, by chance, she met and photographed Philipp for a week. From her time in both cities came Day For Night which examines the major parallels and polarities between the everyday experience of an American’s perspective and a German’s perspective through the lens of a French photographer.
How similar can the arc of two people’s days be if they’re on opposite sides of the world? Documenting their personal rituals in private and public moments, Richard explores the arc of two semi-fictionalized days in the lives of Yasmine and Philipp. In these moments Day For Night tries to cross-culturally translate concepts of time: time spent; time on a 24 hour cycle; time of day, and the significance and insignificance of what these concepts mean in each place.
Two people. Two cities. Two time zones. Moon and Sun. Day and Night.
Day For Night, known in French as Nuit Américaine (the American Night), is a cinematographic technique to simulate night scenes filmed during the day using blue lenses and under-exposed film. It is interesting to note that as the final draft of the project was nearing completion many of the shots in the series representing night were actually taken in the day, and vice versa. Of course, the name of the show is also a reference to French director, Truffaut’s 1973 film, Day For Night. Richard’s series will be up at Valentine’s where Yasmine and Philipp will mirror each other on two opposing walls for the entire month of December.

I could study Robin all day but I like it the best when she is halfway unaware of being photographed.

Hi, I’m alive, and still in Portland, which is the same and feels so different in light of the fact that I am moving at the end of January. The leaves are more beautiful, the friendships more intense and also, oh yeah, we have a new president, did you hear?
